Happy Mother’s Day – cherish the time

I really struggled with how to purposely represent Mother’s Day here at Back’NGrooveMom.  I thought to make a video (even made a quickie that turned out terrible and ended in the virtual trash can); then, I was going to write about my mom (who we already know is awesome and truly getting her back in the groove); there was a brief moment that I considered a little post on my new reading glasses and did they make me an old mom?; next, I thought about you, all my great mom readers and how I could honor you; finally, I went to yoga to clear my head…..AND, when I left class, I learned of a terrible tragedy.

As I exited yoga, there were about 10 police cars on the street and many bystanders.  Of course, I asked “what happened?”  I did not witness what I am about to tell you, but what I learned from a witness was a grandmother and her 8 month old baby were struck by a moving vehicle.  Both the grandmother and the baby went to the hospital via ambulance, and that is all that I know.  Just this tiny bit of information gives me chills up and down my spine.  At that moment, I knew what direction to take on the blog for Mother’s Day — As Moms we need to cherish, love, and value every single second of being a mom.  We may stay-at-home, work-at-home, hold high-powered careers, or run our own business, but at the end of the day, we are all MOMS!

There are moments, days, and often weeks where being a mom seems like an endless and draining tasks, and then you see the “Acklnowledgements” on your 4th grader’s science fair poster board…….

As moms, we may feel our entire job on earth is saying “NO” and “I am not so & so’s mom” until we sneak a peek in our kid’s room at night and see a peacefully sleeping child……

We may need to escape here and there for some “me” time to enjoy a book, a manicure, a massage, or just a walk, but when we arrive back home (refreshed) there are always a few little or big people excited to see us…..

For years, I stayed-at-home, and now I juggle a new schedule.  Throughout both phases, deep down inside, being a mom is the driving force in all that I do.  My mom told me that the years would fly by, and yes — she was RIGHT!  Time goes by quickly, and I now have one child in the DOUBLE DIGITS, so this Mother’s Day my plan is too slow down AND appreciate.  Do NOT get me wrong, I took myself for a pre-Mother’s Day mani this week and I do plan on a little bit of “me” time on Sunday.  I also plan to attend basketball ALL DAY on Saturday and bake cookies on Sunday for our family dinner, AND I know that I am so lucky to be able to do that.  This photo seems like a very, very long time ago, and I said goodbye to the lap-sitting stage many years ago.  Now, it is time to embrace the next stage.

That is my Mother’s Day wish for all of you  – whether you spend a luxurious “me” day that starts with breakfast in bed OR a family/kid-filled day OR a little bit of both, remember the little moments and savor each stage of being a MOM.  All along the life-cycle of being a mom, we get our groove back in different ways whether it be losing the baby weight, finding something of our own when kids hit school-age, or discovering a hidden hobby when we become empty-nesters.  Just do not forget the tiny, little footprints that each stage has left in your memory. – Rachel

What ways do you remember each unique stage?  How do you plan to celebrate Mother’s Day?

Happy Mother’s Day! Having already lost my own mother, I agree – cherish the moments. You don’t know when they will end.

Loved the acknowledgement picture, and it’s great to be reminded of all the benefits that go along with the job of saying, “No”

Happy Mother’s Day and what a great post and reminder to slow down and really enjoy our precious babes. I am so blessed to be a Mom and have such a great role model in my own Mom. Thanks for expressing this so beautifully with your post and pics. Hope you have a great weekend and a great Mother’s Day. Oh and mine have out grown the snuggle on lap phase too but I now bribe with cash (or M&M’s) to give me a long snuggle. Whatever works. 🙂

Happy mothers day! I am currently at a stage that seems never ending and hard to appreciate since I am needed so much. My girls are 4, 2.5 and 3 months. But thank you for the reminder to really appreciate these moments because they really do fly by and soon I will have no babies, just big kids. 🙂
