Summer Tricks of the Trade for Mompreneurs

I want to say a huge THANKS to all of you for the compliments on the new look!  I feel like I personally had a make-over, and nothing makes you feel more like a million bucks than hearing “you look great!” I also appreciate all of you who have subscribed again using that little button on the right with the subscribing icons.  In the site move, I lost my subscribers, and it is awesome to see everyone signing up again!  If you have not signed up yet….you can use either email or RSS feed to get the latest Back’NGroove-Posts.

This transition has been particularly difficult for me because as you already know, I am extremely IMPATIENT, and also (are you ready for this?) a PERFECTIONIST.  It has even been difficult to write and update the blog as I wait for the kinks to get ironed out and the rest of the site to be built.  On top of all that – it is SUMMER!  So, I am competing with vacation schedules and general summer hangover.  Do you have a summer hangover?  I DO!

I think that there is a little piece of all of us who are dreaming of a long walk in the sun, one more dip in the pool, an extra tennis match, or even just a big ice cream cone throughout the week.  That is a summer hangover — after a weekend of fun in the sun, we are only left wanting more!  I am actually a tiny bit jealous of my boys and youth in general.  Summer is for KIDS – ditching all the books and responsibilities of the school year, and soaking up the sun.  There are fabulous lessons to be learned in the summer.  Kids everywhere are negotiating group politics at kickball games, learning entrepreneurial lessons at the local lemonade stand, and forming new relationships at camps.

I am back to writing and editing anywhere and everywhere AGAIN, and feeling pretty good about it.  I have some awesome guest posts that are going to start appearing soon, and I have not forgotten that I am going to share my BIG MISTAKE soon……but, I am also learning new lessons over the summer despite my summer hangover.

I have radically altered my schedule for summer, and although transitions are rough, I am taking it in stride.  As moms, we must change it up in the summer because school is out, and I think that is a really great thing!  Days are longer, the sun is brighter, and we tend to be full of energy in the summertime.  What a terrific opportunity to tackle new tasks, and even more motivating to tie up loose ends from the winter.

I suspect that we can finish out the year STRONG after shaking things up a bit during the summer.  Organically, as mompreneurs, we develop new multi-tasking skills to add to our bag of tricks during the summer months.  We expand the balancing act to include summer fun, growing biz opportunities, and maybe just a tiny bit of time for ourselves.

Something that I have been using more often in the summer are my HootSuite timed tweets.  The new publisher feature is really amazing for setting up posts in advance for Twitter, LinkedIn, and your Facebook biz page.  This is allowing me to still share the same great content and my favorite posts that I always read, but I am not tied to my desk and computer.  That’s my little trick to catching some extra time in the summer with my family.

Delighted to cross paths with you, Rachel!

    Let’s face the music …

Everyone from Pittsburgh is a PERFECTIONIST (including ME). But I like to tell people I’m a “recovering” perfectionist. LOL!

I’m a single mompreneur with four daughters, including a set of twins. Whew! I can’t remember the last time my girls took a summer off from school. They grab up those summer school classes as fast as they can! Do keep in mind my youngest are my twins and they’re 19 years old.

Hootsuite is an awesome social media management tool and I’m also a BIG fan of SocialOomph and Ping (dot) fm. Couldn’t survive without them.

The temperatures here in Southern California are starting to heat up. An ice cream cone sounds mighty yummy right about now!

    Wonderful post!

Melanie — WOW! you have been a busy mompreneur, but sounds like you are setting an amazing example for your girls!

I am going to have to check out socialoomph….I have heard a lot about it now.

As for me – I am seeking recovery for my perfectionism 🙂

Enjoy the sun and some fun – Rachel
