It has been pouring for the last 24+ hours. For those of you who know me, you know that I am a chronic climate complainer. Unless it is sunny, hot, and lacking humidity, I have a gripe. Just know this about me. I am not saying that it is one of my better qualities, rather it is just a reality. I have been this way for most of my life.
As the mom of boys and dogs, my need for good weather is only heightened. Who needs 2 wild and crazy boys and 3 revved up dogs running around?
No doubt that rain (and snow and ice) make for amazingly productive work at home days. These are the days that I make coffee (many, many pots of coffee), and I deal with banking, cleaning up the desk, and other tidying up type tasks.
I am not in the mood for that today. You see – yesterday I carved out a little ME time (at the urging of my twitter gals).
Determined to attend the labor day 90 minute hot yoga to music class, I made sure the whole gang at home knew that I was going. I did go, except that the yogi behind me barfed on her mat just as we were heading into wheel. If you know the pose that I am talking about, then you know that I pushed myself into wheel and dropped my head back to meet with a very unfriendly vision. Needless to say that the subsequent savasana (relaxation pose) was a bit of a bust for me.
Add to this my slight predisposition to being germ-phobic, and you see how my vomiting yogi neighbor set the tone for not a very glamorous Labor Day. After a LONG, HOT, DISINFECTING shower, I tried to make the most of the day off. We had friends over during the day and family for dinner, and I crawled into bed early…..Only to wake up to more rain!
I could really use a little sun to brighten my day, but there is no end in sight to the dreariness. The last bout with rain ended up in some really useful discoveries and tasks accomplished. As I mentioned on StartupNation last week, I am newly backed up with Carbonite and handing over my piles and piles of receipts to Shoeboxed. This was a fabulous way to avoid internet shopping (ok – I did a little).
So, now I got the boys to school, worked out, made more coffee, and I am off to tackle the desk. Today’s top task – a password keeper. Any suggestions? (I must be honest – new wedge boots – taking recs there too).
Las but not least, thanks to Erica of WomenontheFence.com for writing TODAY about this month being National Yoga Awareness Month. I think that I will make sure to get to yoga again this week and aim for a very peaceful savasana.
Does weather affect your day? Would rather look at sun through the window? How do you beat the the weather blues? RB
