Blogher ’12 …stolen moments with my favorites and hand held electronics

I am back home (in body not mind) from Blogher ’12.  Actually, I have been home for almost 24 hours.  A hazy, confused, blurry 24 hours of ‘Oh, Let me tell you one more great thing that happened at Blogher.‘  Considering that Henry is the only one home as the boys are still at camp and the majority of my friends are on vacation, Henry is feigning a ton of interest in my little anecdotes.

Then, a little lightbulb went off in my head.  Time to actually form some written sentences about the event.  Blogher, the event that gathered 4500+ women (and a few men like Ted Rubin) in NYC for endless days of learning sessions, parties, keynote speakers, talking, tweeting, status updating, and of course, free vibrators AND Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner (what more could a gal want?) deserved a post.

Depleted and exhausted yet exihilirated is just the beginning in describing how I felt this morning, but I needed to consume a few more pots of coffee before I really put into words how I accurately felt.  Now rocking a great Starbucks induced caffeine buzz, I am ready to go…

…Here’s the thing, I am not a roommate person.  I like my space and privacy and to get up crazy early to go on runs that I end up getting lost and panicking on….BUT, I decided to shack up with Jenny from the Blog on this adventure.  I am so happy that I did because Blogher is big and kinda scary from the outside, and it is so nice to have a sidekick to come and go with to the parties.  Especially when you run into wild camels.

That being said – Jenny and I made fab partners mostly because we discussed our main goals for the conference and split up to achieve those said goals.  Behind the closed doors of our room, we had a lot of fun, shall we say.  Since you missed dinner with us on Saturday night, you missed out on the details of these good times.  Let’s just say, we let our hair and bras down in the room.

Moving onto to the more impressive aspects of Blogher, highlights included:

  • Watching President Obama via LIVE Feed open the conference with a smile and warm words of encouragement on how we as bloggers are forging new frontiers.  With greetings from Michelle and the girls (and Bo), the POTUS pointed out the huge importance of women in this country, especially because we make up half the population, a growing portion of the work force, and 80% of his household.

  • Spending large doses of time with Jenny Feldon who is not only my cosmic sister, but a recipient of the Voices of the Year Award.  Seeing Jenny take the stage in front of the daunting amount of attendees at Blogher and read her bittersweet post on the loss of her mother-in-law and how her young daughter compared the loss to the fish at the Whole Foods Seafood Counter brought chills to my body.  Both gracious and eloquent, Jenny captivated the audience.

Afterwards – we celebrated!

  • Being one of the first to see and sip the new Starbucks Verismo.  Come on people – if there is one thing that I would give my first born (at least my roommate, Jenny) away for, you know it is a steaming cup of Joe from Starbucks.
  • Tips on working with brand from Anna Lingeris from the venerable Hershey’s.  Being honest and short and sweet in communication is what stood out the most.  How could we not be sweet for the social media director for the sweetest place on earth?
  • I filmed a short vignette in a lip sync video with the gorgeous rockstar, Diane Mizota of Pop Chips.  Oh, I also go lots of delicious tastes of the new pop tortilla chips.  Yes, I see the theme.  I will work for food.
  • The most pivotal comment of the conference for me and from what I can tell, many others was when Katie Couric who was the most outstanding keynote spoke on the subject of that crazy question many women are asked continually, “How do you do it all?’  Katie responded with “Nobody ever asks Brian Williams that.” Amen.

On top of all this, there were fun outings with the ID Confessions ladies, Jessica who certainly has found her marbles, Jenny, Jenny, and I think there were one or two more Jennies, Kim Tracy Prince who continues to flatter me although it should be the other way around, a few moments stolen with Liz Gumbinner of Cool Mom Picks (who I need not say is my absolute favorite), a huge hug from Stacy Morrison (Editor in Chief of Blogher), meeting Erica Diamond who pushed me off the fence into my groove, and a luscious McDonald’s Cheeseburger to cap it all off.

Thank you Blogher for welcoming me and the 4999 other fabulous bloggers to NYC.  My only complaint – I never got to eat a real NY bagel.

I doubt this is the end of my Blogher recap, rather just the beginning. R

Thanks Rachel loved seeing you too. You and Jenny are such perfect roommates it’s skeery – would love to have been a fly on those walls. (But not when your bras were off, don’t worry.)

BlogHer was a blast and rach you were a fab roomie! Not in the way that’s implied! Sheesh, your sick readers need to get their head outta the gutter, especially Henry, who I know is slightly disappointed. You’re the perfect wingman, shwetty boobs and all!!! Love ya babe!
