For many of us, cold and often gloomy weather has set in…If you are anything like me, there is nothing that I like more in cold/dreary weather than plopping down into my couch with a big bowl of snacks. Unfortunately, laying endlessly on the sofa while eating does no one any good. Plus, that makes me not a very good role model – aaack.
Not one day passes that I do not come across some form of discussion on keeping our kids healthy and teaching them to be active every day. In a world of video gaming systems, i-everything, and great reality TV, moving for 60 minutes a day can be a challenge! If you live somewhere that the couch beckons while the wind blows outside, this is even more of as challenge. This Sunday, I am actually so excited to be invited to participate in NFL Play 60 Training Camp at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, PA with the boys.
Sponsored in Pittsburgh by Dick’s Sporting Goods, the event is presented in conjunction with NFL Play 60, the National Football League’s national health and fitness campaign to encourage young fans to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.Visitors will receive information on how parents and teachers can effectively encourage physical activity to their students as part of the American Heart Association’s NFL Play 60 Challenge.
With a fun lineup of activities including a Mini-NFL Combine involving passing a football and a 40 yard dash, the boys will definitely earn a little time vegging, but I will feel much better knowing they blew off some steam. Our hope as parents is that enjoying these types of activities only encourages our kids to want to do more, be active again and again, and develop life long habits which include daily activity.
Can you tell I am pretty charged up for the event? I am even curious about my passing accuracy. Who knows?
Let me know if you are going to be there, so I can show off my skills!
